Abstract:

The current status of land desertification and main advances in its research in China have been summarized systematically in this paper. Land desertification mainly occurred in Inner Mongolia and Northwest China. Although the development process of land desertification in these regions has been primarily curbed in recent years generally, however, natural conditions in these regions, such as the fragile ecosystems, enhanced warming, aridity trend and wind erosion, provide the background of desertification. Along with frequent human activities that guided by the economic benefit, land desertification has not been addressed fundamentally. In recent study, the prominent advance in desertification in monitoring and assessment has been made. Assessment research developed from early comprehensive assessment based on desertification indicators to recent quantitative assessment which is based on remote sensed vegetation indexes. But all these desertification assessments are disaggregated by regions, and without a standardized assessment system that can be widely accepted, which has significantly delayed the process of desertification control. Therefore, considering various factors contributing to desertification, an unified and standardized assessment system should be explored to evaluate the future scenarios of desertification in arid and semi-arid regions in Northern China, which can provide the scientific basis for making effective desertification-combating programmes. Thus, such an assessment system is the critical issue which has to be confronted with and be settled in future desertification research in China.

摘要:

系统地总结了我国荒漠化的现状和主要研究进展。我国荒漠化主要发生在内蒙和西北地区,近年来虽然在整体上得到初步遏制,但这些地区生态环境脆弱,区域增温明显,干旱化以及风蚀等现象为荒漠化提供了自然条件,再加上以经济效益为导向的人类活动频繁发生,荒漠化现象并没有得到根本缓解。近年来,我国荒漠化研究在监测手段和评价指标方面取得了突出进展,已经从早期的荒漠化指征综合评价发展到现在基于遥感植被指数的定量化评价,评价标准经历了多样化的发展过程。但同时这些评价标准具有明显的区域性,没有形成一个广泛接受的统一的荒漠化评价体系,严重影响了荒漠化防治工作的进程。因此,结合多种影响荒漠化的因子建立统一标准的荒漠化评价体系,科学地评价和预测我国北方干旱半干旱地区荒漠化未来的扩张程度,并为制定有效的防治措施提供科学依据是我国荒漠化研究必须面对和解决的关键问题。
